Ortega Capital offers the award-winning MetaTrader 4 (“MT4”) platform for trading Forex, Indices and Commodities. We offer MT4 for Mac OS and Windows, and mobile trading platforms for Android, iPhone and iPad.

For FIX, they are mostly for institutional connections.

These platforms are all free of charge.

You cannot change the chart time in your MT4 platform. The chart time is configured and standardised in our server. The chart time 00:00 hrs is aligned to New York 17:00 hrs.

You may download the MT4 trading platform for Windows/Mac from your User Dashboard upon login. Please register/login here.

This error can occurs when the server receives multiple requests for the same order/trade. Please wait some time and try again, otherwise restarting the MetaTrader 4 terminal should help in resolving the problem.

There are a few possibilities:

  1. Wrong password. If you cannot remember your password, you may log in to your account and submit a request to reset MT4 password at the top left hand corner. (Please note the password is case-sensitive)
  2. Account expired. Our Demo accounts will expire after 30 days of inactivity. You may open a new demo account in MT4.

All our trading accounts are Standard accounts. You can trade 1 mini lot and 1 micro lot by entering 0.1 lot or 0.01 lot respectively.

  1. Go to ‘File’ up the top left of your MT4 platform
  2. Go to profiles, then select ‘save as’
  3. Go to the MetaTrader –OrtegaCapital folder in ‘Program files’
  4. Copy the folder named ‘profiles’ and paste it into your new MetaTrader folder

You can do the same for the indicator folders and experts folder.

The pricing that is shown on MT4 is the Bid price (SELL price). To show the Ask price (BUY price), right click on the chart, then click “Properties”. Under the Common tab in the new window, tick on ‘Show Ask line’. Please note you will not be able to see the ‘ASK’ price/line retrospectively.

Yes, our MT4 platform supports the use of Expert Advisors (EAs).

Search for MetaTrader4 in the Android Market or the iPhone’s App Store to install the platform.

After you launch your mobile MT4 app, access the menu and select

  • “Login to an existing account”
  • Under “Find broker”, enter
    1. “OrtegaCapital-Server” for live account, or
    2. “OrtegaCapital-Demo” for demo account

For Live accounts: This is either one of two errors: incorrect login or password. If you are still having issues after attempting to re-enter details, please contact us via Live Chat or Contact Us form or email at [email protected].

For Demo Accounts: This means you’ve either entered the wrong login or password, or your 30 days demo has expired. You can get access to an unlimited demo by opening and funding a live account. Once opened, send your MT4 Demo login to [email protected] to make it unlimited.

Charges & Rebate

In the event, there are no open trades in your account for a period of at least 12 months, a monthly fee of 10 units of the currency in which your account is denominated will be withdrawn.

For example: if your account is in USD you will be charged 10 USD, if your account is in CHF you will be charged 10 CHF, etc.

Your account will be charged until one of the following conditions are met:

  1. You close your account
  2. You resume trading in your account
  3. The balance of the account is reduced to zero. (An inactive account will not incur a negative balance.)

No, an account that has not been funded, will not incur a negative balance.

No, the inactivity fee is being applied at the user level meaning if you trade in your primary account or any of your sub-accounts you will NOT be charged. Also note that the fee will only be taken from one sub-account each month so you will not be charged multiple fees in any one month.

If you have resumed trading after inactivity fees have been withdrawn, you can request a rebate up to 3 months worth of the inactivity fees based on how many months you have been charged. If you would like to deposit funds into your account and continue to trade, please refer to “Funding & Withdrawal” section.


No, Ortega Capital is a Straight-Through-Processing (STP) broker. We do not deal against our clients or manipulate prices.

Leverage is used to help traders maximize profits with lesser capital. Leverage determines how much margin is required for each trade. Ortega Capital offers up to 1:100 leverage.

Yes. You can log in to Ortega Capital’s client portal and submit a request, which is located at the top left hand corner of the user dashboard.

You can open hedge positions (hold both long and short positions of the same pair) on the MT4 platform.

Yes. It is active on the demo platform, however, live accounts require a Trailing Stop Request. To activate the Trailing Stop on a position, go to ‘Trade’ in the ‘Terminal’ at the bottom of the platform, right-click and choose Trailing Stops. Please note that you have to be making a profit of minimum 15 pips before you can activate it.

IMPORTANT – Your MT4 terminal must be on at all times for this feature to work or your account will be exposed to unlimited risk.

Margin is a collateral required to take a trade. It is dependent on the leverage of the trading account.

Below shows the corresponding Margin for the respective Leverage:



To trade 1 standard lot (contract size of USD100,000) on an account with leverage of 1:100, the margin required is 1% of USD100,000 = USD1,000.

Ortega Capital offers ECN spread, which is the raw spread usually accessible to banks and institutions only. It is the tightest spread and we offer it to all our clients. A commission of USD12 (or its equivalent) per lot traded is chargeable.

Under normal market conditions, your Stop Loss level will be respected. However, in the event of market/price gap (which may be a result of weekend gaps, news, events etc.), prices may not be available to exit your trade at the Stop Loss level.  Our platform will exit your trade at the next best price available. Refer to Ortega Capital’s Order Execution Policy.

Margin Call is triggered when your available margin is low and you will not be able to execute new trades. However, you can enter trades to hedge against existing trades.

Stop Out is triggered when your equity is low and the platform will automatically close ALL your existing trades. Refer to Ortega Capital’s Order Execution Policy.

A Margin Call is triggered before a Stop Out.

The calculation will occur at 00:00hrs MT4 server time, which corresponds to 17:00hrs New York time.

Positions held overnight are automatically rolled to the next trading day. The cost of carry for holding a position overnight can either be a credit or debit to the clients account, depending on the assets and orientations of their positions.

Spread is the difference between the Bid price (Selling price) and the Ask price (Buying price).


We allow a minimum of 0.01 standard lots on our platform.

The maximum lot size is 100 standard lots for currency, 50 standard lots for metals and 250 standard lots for other instruments. You may log in to your Client Portal and submit a request to increase lot size at the top left hand corner.

There is no time limit on how long you can hold your trades, as long as your trading account has sufficient funds and do not trigger Margin Call or Stop Out.

There is a USD12 (or its equivalent) per standard lot commission charged for our ECN spread.

Trading and support desk is available from 22:05:01 P.M. GMT Sunday through 21:54:59 P.M. GMT Friday.

If you decide to leave trades open over the weekend:

  • You cannot close existing positions or open new positions when markets are closed (but you can place or modify Entry Orders, Stop Loss, Take Profit and Trailing Stop orders).
  • Spreads (the difference between the bid price and the ask price) typically widen at 4:00 p.m. Friday, to reflect decreased liquidity in the global markets. These widened spreads could trigger stop-loss orders or margin closeouts when a position is opened at this time.
  • Market prices may significantly change or “gap” when trading resumes on Sunday. This change could trigger Entry Orders, which are executed at the current market rate. For example, if the market rate moves against you, a stop-loss order may be closed at a rate different from your stop-loss rate — resulting in additional losses.

Ensure that you maintain sufficient margin in your trading account at all times to avoid a margin closeout. To reduce the risk of a margin closeout, reduce or close your overall positions or add more funds to your trading account. To prevent unwanted order execution, consider widening your take-profits, stop-losses or trailing-stops prior to the weekend.

Unfortunately it is currently not possible to open an account with Ortega Capital while being a resident of the United States of America.

As a regulated entity, Ortega Capital is required to comply with industry ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) requirements to identify our customers and check their background. We are required to verify your identity and obtain information about your source of income and wealth and level of experience with financial products. Security of clients’ personal information is of the utmost importance to us.

As a regulated entity, Ortega Capital is required to perform customer due diligence for Anti-Money Laundering purposes. Please allow 1-2 business days for us to review and process the identification documents you submitted as part of the application process. We will notify you by email as soon as your account is ready for trading.

You can have multiple accounts denominated in US Dollar (USD) and Swiss Franc (CHF).

To amend your registered email address, please send a request from your registered email address to [email protected]. In order to make the change, we may ask you to confirm other personal details we hold for you on our records.

You can reset your password by selecting ‘Forgot Your Password’ on the login page. We will then send instructions for changing your password to your registered email address.

All demo accounts automatically expire after 30 days. Unfortunately, it is not possible to extend this period. Please be aware that all data regarding the demo account will be lost when the account expires. If you want to keep a copy of your trade history, we advise you to copy the account statement to your computer. To do that, go to Account History in the Terminal, right-click and choose ‘Save as Report’.

Yes, you can give authority to another person to trade from your account on your behalf (a limited power of attorney). Please email [email protected] with your request.

You are required to provide us with a copy of a Proof of Identity (POI) and a Proof of Residence (POR):

  • Proof of Identity (POI). The document should show your photo, name and date of birth. Please upload one:
    • National Identification Card (front and back copy)
    • Driver’s License (front and back copy)
    • Passport
    • Other Identification Card issued by government/ known government agency/ body (front and back copy)
  • Proof of Residence (POR). The document should show your name, address and date that is not older than 6 months from the date of application. Please upload one:
    • Utility Bill
    • Bank Account Statement / Credit Card Statement from a recognised bank

Please note that the documents must be clear and legible. Please scan or capture the full document and do not crop. The documents must be valid or recent (not older than 6 months) showing your full name, address, and document validity date.

Your account will be approved within 1-2 business days, after you have submitted a valid copy of POI (Proof of Identity) and POR (Proof of Residence).

No, it is not possible if the account has been funded before. However, if account has never been funded, it is possible by submitting additional documents regarding the second person who should be the account holder.

You will need to notify our support team in writing, either via our Contact Us form or from your registered email address. You will need to withdraw any funds in your account and provide full contact details and your account number. Please refer to the Withdrawal tab for more information.

We may contact you by phone to confirm your closure. If we are unable to contact you by phone we will send you an email. You will need to reply to that email to confirm your closure request.

In MT4, click on the Account tab, then go to Cash Transactions > Inter-Account Transfer

Select the account you wish to transfer funds from, the receiving sub-account and the amount to transfer, then click Transfer. You can select the transfer currency in the “Amount to transfer” field. The indicative conversion rate will be shown in the relevant field.

Click “Submit” to execute the inter account transfer.

There is no transfer fee, however a 0.5% conversion fee applies when transferring in different currencies. The conversion fee is charged by using the mid-spread FX Spot rate at the time of transfer, plus/minus 0.5%.

Technical Requirements & MT4 Setup

The MetaTrader 4 platform requires a Windows operating system.

  • Windows 7+ (XP and Vista are unsupported)
  • Mac OS X 10.9


The FIX API’s support the following programming languages:

  • REST
  • Java (does not support v20 accounts)
  • FIX 4.2 and 4.4 (available only for Premium clients)

Search for MetaTrader4 in the Android Market or the iPhone’s App Store to install the platform.

After you launch your mobile MT4 app, access the menu and select

Select “OrtegaCapital-Demo” if your account is a Demo Account.

Select “OrtegaCapital-Server” if your account is a Real Account.

Step 3: Login to your MT4 Account

The password here (Master Password) is the same as your Ortega Capital’s account login password. If you would like to change this password, please login to your account and change in your dashboard.

Step 5: Setting up the “Market Watch”, “Navigator” and “Terminal”

Click on “View” and select “Market Watch”, “Navigator” and “Terminal”. This will allow easier usage of the MT4 Platform.

Step 6: Adding All Currency Pairs, Spreads, Time, for Trading on MT4

Under the Market Watch panel, select “Show All” to show all currencies available for trading. In addition, select “Spread”, and “Time”, which will allow you to see the spreads for a currency pair and the time of last quote. This ensures that the quotes are live. The symbol “.sq” behind the currency pairs indicate that the prices are feed from our liquidity provider.

Step 7: Enter Buy or Seller Order

Select “New Order” or click on “F9” to bring up the order window.

Under the “New Order”, you may select the currency you wish to trade by selecting the desired currency pair.

To enable prompt trading, you may right click on the chart and select “One Click Trading”.

“One Click Trading” shows up on the top left hand corner of you graph to enable prompt trading.

Step 8: Adding another Chart

Under the “Window” tab, select “New Window” and select the desired currency pair for the new window.

Step 9: Toggling between Chart Timeframes

Right click on the chart and select “Timeframes” and the desired timeframe (Eg. 1 Hour / Daily).

Alternatively, at the top of the panel, there are buttons (eg. H1/H4/D1) to enable quick toggling across timeframes.

Step 10: Changing Chart Type (Bar Chart / Candlesticks / Line Chart)

Select between Bar Chart / Candlesticks / Line Chart on the panel. Alternatively, you may choose “Alt + 1” for Bar Chart, “Alt + 2” for Candlesticks and “Alt + 3” for Line Chart.

Step 11: Toggle Chart Properties (e.g. Color scheme)

Right click on the chart and select “Properties”. Alternatively you can press “F8” to open the Properties window.

Upon opening the Properties window, you can choose the desired colour scheme for your chart (e.g. green for Bull Candle and red for Bear Candle).
